Stirling Dunblane Alloa (SDA) Electrification Works – Investing in Scotland’s Railway

Larbert to Dunblane and Alloa Line Closure: 14 to 22 October 2018

To support the delivery of the electrification of the Larbert, Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa (SDA) lines for the introduction of ScotRail’s new electric 385 trains this December, Network Rail is intensifying engineering works which will involve the closure of the line from Larbert to Dunblane and Alloafrom the 14th to 22nd October when the line will re-open for Monday morning services.

This will involve engineers working day and night to complete critical overhead electric line works including mast and cantilever installation, cable ducting works to platforms, wiring and registration works.

The work being delivered by Network Rail as part of the Scottish Government’s rolling programme of electrification, working with partners, to build the best railway Scotland has ever had.

Engineering activity is being intensified ahead of the launch of ScotRail’s new fleet of electric trains on the routes this December. Once the new fleet of longer, faster and greener electric trains is introduced significant customer benefits will be realised including faster journeys, more seats, and better services on morning and evening peak services to Glasgow and Edinburgh. The completion of the electrification will also enable a 42-minute journey time on the Edinburgh-Glasgow, via Falkirk High, line.

The line closure is to allow periods of continuous working, with engineers working 24/7 along the line of route including at a number of stations: Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Dunblane and Alloa.

During the delivery of the works, trains will be replaced by buses to/from stations affected by the line closure, as listed below. Details of alterations to train services can be found at

Affected routes:

Glasgow Queen St – Inverness services

Glasgow Queen St – Aberdeen services

Edinburgh – Dunblane services

Glasgow Queen St – Dunblane, Stirling and Alloa services

Torwood Futsal Club is a community club aimed for all children aged 6-15 from the communities of Larbert, Torwood and Stenhousemuir.

Futsal is an indoor football style sport and is played in a court setting. This sport requires the use of a special ball that does not bounce. Players have to use a degree of skill to play and the aim of the weekly session is to coach children in these skills.

The benefits of Futsal include-

* It will make you a better player. The world’s top players Neymar and Ronaldo all played Futsal when young.

* Fast pace games improves decision making

* Improves children’s health

Currently we have 4 training sessions aimed at different ages and ability open to both boys and girls.

* Monday @ Larbert High School

* Tuesday @ Denny High School

* Wednesday @ Larbert High School

* Thursday @ Larbert High School

Our club is run by volunteers providing many hours unpaid work each week. All our volunteers hold a PVG.

What the Great Players Say About Futsal

“As a little boy in Argentina, I played Futsal on the streets and for my club. It was tremendous fun, and it really helped me become who I am today.”

-Lionel Messi

“During my childhood in Portugal, all we played was Futsal, the small playing area helped me improve my close control, and whenever I played Futsal I felt free. If it wasn’t for Futsal, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.”

-Cristiano Ronaldo

“The technique of playing Futsal is different to the eleven-a-side version; there are spectacular things you can attempt that you would not dare trying in football. It adds more fun to the discipline.”

-Zinadine Zidane
